Food web
Information on Food Webs
First, we must know where the energy comes from. All energy comes from the sun. Plants, or primary producers, use the suns energy to make their own. When a herbivore eats the plant, it gains the energy that the plant had. This energy is then passed down to the organism that ate the herbivore, and so on.
The food web could be easily affected too by increasing or decreasing the numbers of one species. Say we have a decrease in plant life. Then there would be less food for the herbivore, causing the herbivores to compete for food. This causes the herbivores to deplete in numbers, and the carnivores deplete in a result of that. Any other fluctuation would cause the food web to be affected.
The food web can also be affected by population growth. Some factors that may influence or limit population growth is a higher or lower birth and death rate, immigration, and emigration.
Invasive species also affect the food web. One actual case of invasive species for the desert is the Argentine Cactus Moth. Their larvae is the problem. The larvae crawl inside cactuses and deplete it of all its nutrients, and then it moves on to the next one. This is a problem because the larvae can destroy entire populations of cactus.
